Oh My Gulay Show Podcast Episode 8

Wartime in the podcast. As Pinoy History 101 tackles on the Philippine-American War, we sprinkled it with cookies to make it all festive for the holidays. And (YES!), husbands can't win any war with their wives. (Don't even try). Let's get it started here.

We recorded this last Sunday but took me this long to edit and upload here. My apologies. I hope you guys enjoy it.

Shownotes showoff.

  • Waa! I really liked this episode coz I love food XP Lalo na yung mga pinag usapan niyo. Yung mga paborito ko though ay yung fishballs! Tapos yung manga on a stick na may bagoong. Siyempre don't forget yung dirty icecream at taho! I love taho! XP The cookie recipe sounds really yummy. I'll have to try that one.

And Obi, thanks for that history lesson. I didn't know about that war actually. Nakalimutan ko na eh. So thanks for refreshing my memory. Kailangan natin lumingon sa ating pinaggalingan di ba?

Salamat ulet. It was a really good episode!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 6:38 AM

  • Tonkatsu? Ohh, sounds good XP

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:18 AM

  • Wow, tonkatsu, I love cooking that, and Obi loves eating it.

The cookie recipe is really good, it will be up shortly , as soon as Obi finishes his Pinoy History 101 segment shownotes for this episode. Takes him long to post it, I know, that's why I did all the shownotes from eps 4-8.

Hopefully, he can finish it today, :)

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 2:48 PM

  • Yum! tonkatsu,, Hey Marie. Its been a while since we had that. Can we cook some next week? :-P

You're welcome mishi.. Its a very impt event so I'm not gonna pass it up. The 2nd part would be on the next episode. GLad you like the food topic.. Man.. filipinos love food.. And I like eating Marie's cooking. (^_^)

Oh yeah huh.. fishballs and taho.. I totally forgot.. Oh, don't forget the binatog!

By Blogger Obi, at 6:31 PM

  • eleanor.. While I was posting those pictures, my stomach was grumbling too.. I want some kwek-kwek and bibingka.. too bad we can't get them here. Well, not as good as they have it in PI. (the bibingka that is)

Thanks flipntx. There's more to come!

Marie.. Well, the shownotes almost done. Just need to be uploaded and posted here. It'll be up here tonight. Promise. Thanks again for doing the shownotes.

By Blogger Obi, at 6:34 PM

  • I envy you Obi. You have a wife that can cook about anything. I'm learning little by little. Elvis (my hubby) needs to learn to cook too. I was watching this infomercial where you can put frozen food on this rack and place the heating "lamp" thing on the top and you set it and walk away. It looks easy. Have you guys seen it? When on my days off Elvis' buys out. When I'm off I cook. We DON'T save money that way. I'm tellin ya. I can't remember, Does Obi cook too? I want to learn to cook Filipino desserts..

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:15 PM

  • Me and cooking? Ummm.. Be afraid. Be very afraid.....
I'm pretty sure Marie would follow up on that.

Yeah. I'm pretty lucky to be married to Marie. She's one awesome cook. A gourmet chef. Ahhh.. Me and our boys are very fortunate to have her..

No, I don't believe I've seen that informercial. That sounds intereting though.

Hmm.. Filipino desserts. We'll look at our list and see if we have any that we can share. My brother makes some killer leche flan. We can prolly discuss that.

By Blogger Obi, at 9:37 PM

  • Yeah please discuss Leche Flan.. yyyyummmmm

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 12:02 AM

  • My BF's mom makes delicious leche flan. She doesn't use any of the egg whites at all. Just the yolks. It makes the flan very thick and yummy.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 3:42 PM

  • Yup. That's how he makes 'em. No egg whites. And he adds some lemon rinds. Its really creamy and good.... yummy.. Just thinking about it now is making me crave it even more.

i'll check with Marie if we can discuss this on a later episode. We got 2 recipe planned out for the next 2 podcasts.

By Blogger Obi, at 6:17 PM

  • Ooh 2 recipes! The other one is from you, right? Dude, I'm craving me some leche flan now! All I have is maha blanca XP And I didn't cook it. I bought it at a Filipino store yesterday. I don't cook much desserts XP The oven hates me.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:36 PM

  • hehehe.. The oven is your friend. :-D

No. We got 2 recipes line up for the next 2 episodes. We got one for Christmas and one for New Year's. You guys would like it for sure. Its perfect for the holidays.

I think I'm gonna bug my brother this weekend to make some leche flan.. Since its the holidays and all.. And we use a steamer to cook our leche flan, not the oven. And no vanilla flavoring either.

By Blogger Obi, at 9:51 PM

  • So have you figured which hosting company you're thinking of going with? I'm currently with cyberpixels for hosting and my domain is with stargate but I'm thinking of changing to bluehost.com. They're number 1 on hosting and you can get a domain for life there. They have alot to offer.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:11 PM

  • Hmm. I was gonna go with godaddy.com for domain name and hosting. But then, I've been reading up on their review with godaddy and I am now convince to go with bluehost. We'll keep you guys posted.

By Blogger Obi, at 11:07 PM

  • Ahh, yah well for the leche flan - definitely a steamer but as far as other desserts are concerned - well - anything that is baked - I just can't seem to do it right XP

Oven is my friend? Oh you mean that friend that secretly hates me and plots my demise? XP

I agree that there should be no vanilla flavoring added *nod*

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:09 PM

  • LOL!!!

Yeah. For other desserts, the oven is the best thing. Although I've seen Marie modified some recipes for microwave baking and it tastes really good.

We got some interesting stuff going at sini-gang comment section. anime talk. yeah!

By Blogger Obi, at 11:31 PM

  • Yeah there is conversation in the sini-gang comments. Anime rocks. Although I can't handle watching them. I hate it when a climax comes up and then "TO BE CONTINUED"!.. I'm screaming and pulling my hair out.., "WHAT?! They always do this to me.".. Then of course I forget to watch the next week show and then miss it all together.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:39 PM

  • Hehehe. The cliff hanger gotcha huh eleanor? What show were you watching anyways?

Just get the dvds so that'll solve that problem. Better yet, get the whole box set of the series you're watching. You can just do a marathon if you like.

By Blogger Obi, at 11:51 PM

  • I'll probably do that but I have to wait until I get a real sleep schedule or something. I can't remember what I was watching. It was awhile back. I can't wait until you put another show up. I'm hurting here at work. I'm running out of podshows to listen too..

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 12:46 AM

  • Yeah, I didn't know a lot of ya'll watch anime, too. I've also been watching a lot of Japanese/Korean/Taiwanese dramas XP

Baking with a microwave? Oooh, I want those recipes! XP

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 1:15 AM

  • You dudes are still up? It's 4:16AM here XP I should be sleeping hehe.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 1:16 AM

  • Yeah Mishi,
At least I'm still up. I work these crazy hours. I get off work at 7am. But you? 4:16am? Dang what's your excuse? j/k.. Yeah I wish I was home in bed next my hubby under the nice warm blanket. Nope I'm stuck in this airconditioned building with no one around to talk to me.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 1:58 AM

  • I have no excuse XP I rewatched Constantine with my BF and then I started submitting reviews for the Filipino podcasts we listen to at iTunes XP I work 2:30pm - 11:00pm so I don't like sleeping as soon as I get home. I am usually up this late XP It's 5:18am now XP I should really sleep hehe.

You work graveyard shift? 7am wow! Sometimes I'm still awake at that hour but that's when I don't have work the next day. Hey, at least it's airconditioned, right? XP Ooohh you're alone there? Ghost stories! hehe, juks! Sige, matutulog na ako!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 2:20 AM

  • Constantine sucked. I really wanted to like it. Maybe I have to watch it again.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 7:33 PM

  • I can't remember if I read it somewhere or heard it from one of the pinoy podcast that there was a filipino in Constatine. And I too, still need to watch it.

Maybe you guys at putanginamo.com can do a review of that movie. So what do you think obet?

Mishi. I'll ask Marie if she wants to share the microwave recipe. Or she'll prolly kill me for even mentioning it. (T_T)

By Blogger Obi, at 11:22 PM

  • eleanor: Try listening to Father Cuyos' podcast. Or to Kwento-Kwento.

By Blogger Obi, at 11:23 PM

  • The girl who was possessed in the very beginning of the movie - I think she and her family were Filipinos. While being possessed, she says this to Constantine.. "Papatayin natin siya!" Hehehe XP

    Thanks for asking Obi!

Eleanor: I listened once to Kwento kwento and Father Cuyos actually XP

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:45 PM

  • And thanks for clarifying that. hehehe.. A tagalog in a hollywood movie.. Reminds me of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

By Blogger Obi, at 11:50 PM

  • No problem. Oh, the Ewoks? XP BTW, I sent ya the email already =)

  • Seems like you guys are all discussing lots of stuff now, I rarely have time to read our blog and comments-- two active boys and cooking baon for Obi and his brother and of course the kids, feeding the kids... I can go on.... is just too much work. But I told Obi last night, that if this site gets into too much anime, I'll freak. I'm trying to be at peace with all his anime and manga stuff up to now, and he bought 4 more DVD's (though it was good stuff),, ekkkk!!! strangling here. Don't get me wrong, not that I don't like it, It's just too much. Theres even some Japanese ones that even Obi (having studied japanese) can't read.

Anyway, the upcoming podcast -Ep 9-, that we might record tonight (if Obi, is not too sleepy or tired) I will be discussing easy gourmet hors d' oeuvres just right for the holidays. It was supposed to be recorded last Sunday night but Obi had to finish up on cleaning the house (hehe, my domesticated hubby..thanks again for the help)

and on Ep 10, I will discuss a dessert with a spirit.. just to keep up the holiday "spirit" nyek, nyek. It's sure to keep you guys warm,, so keep posted, Ok?

And yeah, Obi,, thanks for mentioning the microwaveable stuff I'm working with, don't worry guys, Ill share these menus with you, eventually

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:30 AM

  • Marie: Hehe, we were talking alot about anime at the Sini-Gang XP Do you have a favorite one?

Both episodes sound good! Can't wait!

BTW, just wondering about your set-up when you podcast. Do you both have individual mics? And if so, how do you connect them to the PC? I've been talking about podcasting to some friends and they're curious about it.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 9:32 PM

  • yup, I have a few anime faves, Kenshin (my crush-hihi, giddy) and Spirited Away. I'm curious about Naruto though, I've just seen a part of one episode, and it was interesting, too bad its late at night when they show it, and its bed time for the kids, so i really can't watch, and if ever i watch a recorded one, Alex (our 3-yr old) watches along, and I have to explain whats happening-- so to lessen stress on my part, i just don't watch it. Maybe i'll catch up when the box set comes out.
My cousin is addicted to it though.

And yup, we got separate mics, Obi will explain on this too. Too much techie stuff for me,, hehe, naaah, just lazy.

Also, we recorded episode 9, with the hors'd oeuvres, early this morning. Obi's working on it, trying to post it asap.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 1:18 PM

  • Marie: It'll be awhile before the box set comes out for Naruto.. see it's up to 164 episodes and it's not even nearly done yet XP My BF is purty addicted to Naruto. That's his favorite anime.

Okie, I'll wait for Obi to explain hehee.

Yay! Hopefully I'll have it to listen to tomorrow at work XP

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 9:00 PM

  • Hehehe.. Marie's sarting to go fangirl mode on Kenshin Himura. :-D I love it when she does that. That inner otaku comes out. (^_^) And oh yeah, Spirited Away rocks. She likes anything Studio Ghibli/Hayao Miyazaki. She watched a few Naruto but not totally watched it. She was doing something else and Naruto was on. We might just get the uncut dvd boxset comes june next year. Its better that way. We can watch in our own leisure.

    K. How we got our set up: We're using 2 regular mics (same ones you use to sing karaoke and stuff) connected to a dj mixer (Numark). Same goes with the headphones and the CD player that plays the opening, background and closing songs. Then the mixer is connected to my iBook by using iMic and I record using Audacity. As a back up, I have another cable coming from the mixer going to my other computer (Apple G3 300mhz) to record on SoundEdit 16. I do this to prevent the same audio problems we had a few episodes back.

By Blogger Obi, at 10:08 PM

  • Obi: Aaahh. Thanks for the explanation =) I'm just wondering how complicated it is to record a podcast with more than one person XP BTW, have you guys seen Howl's Moving Castle? I have episodes 1-157 of Naruto subtitled. I kinda stopped downloading when the fillers kept coming and just read the manga. I can burn all of them for ya if you guys want it.

Marie: I like Sanosuke better hehehe XP Ooh, Kenshin and Marie.. Yiihiiii!!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:33 PM

  • Hehehehe!!! You'll laff once you hear ep. 9 coz we mentioned you there. yiihhiii...

Yeah. I've been waiting for the Howl's DVD but it won't come out until april. Along with My Neighbor Totoro and Wispher of the Heart. I'm getting all of those.

I got all of Naruto fansubs until they started the fillers. Is right where the Sasuke/Naruto battle at the edge of Konoha village. So I've been reading the manga too.. Still waiting for chapter 288. Thanks for the offer tho.

    And you're welcome.

By Blogger Obi, at 11:22 PM

  • Waahh, I do? Hehe, now I really can't XP You can dl Howl online. The quality is not bad. And yeah, waiting on the scantalation for that chapter, too.

BTW, did you get the pic I emailed ya?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:37 PM

  • Sorry for the delay of uploading ep. 9. Its been a crazy weekend. Very hectic. But I will try my hardest to get it uploaded tom. Marie's feeling under the weather so we can't record ep. 10 tonight. And also, its the last weekend before Christmas so we're trying to finish up on shopping. My apologies to everyone.

Yeah. I saw the pics.. Really nice costumes. What did you used for the sand gourd? That looked really cool. Even Marie liked it.

By Blogger Obi, at 11:08 PM

  • That's ok Obi, take your time. We know ya'll have lives to pay attention to XP Hay, I also need to finish my shopping. I'll probably buy most of them online hehe.

Thanks! I had the best gourd at that con. I used 2 balloons, plaster, and paint. That's it. It took us 6 hours to finish it. The plaster gave it a sandy feel and appearance. Other people used paper mache but I'd recommend the plaster. It definitely made it look awesome. We went to Home Depot and had some paints mixed to get that color.
